In a tragic incident in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, 17 soldiers and civilians were brutally killed. The main suspect, Endurance Okodeh, also known as Amangben, is currently on the run, along with others involved in the heinous crime.
The Defence Headquarters has deployed troops to conduct a manhunt for the perpetrators and recover all stolen weapons. Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, assured the public that the troops will remain in the creeks until their mission is accomplished.
During a visit to the Division’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt Barracks, Abdussalam emphasized the importance of staying focused on the objectives set by the Chief of Army Staff. He urged the public to provide credible intelligence to assist in tracking down the suspects and recovering the stolen weapons.
Abdussalam reiterated the commitment of the troops to carry out the operation professionally, respecting human rights and adhering to rules of engagement. He called for unity and support from the community to ensure justice is served for the fallen soldiers.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, expressed condolences and solidarity with the Nigerian Army. He highlighted the importance of peace and security in the Niger Delta region for sustainable development.
Ogbuku condemned the senseless act of violence and called for cooperation from all stakeholders to bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized that the incident does not define the peaceful nature of the Niger Delta region, which plays a vital role in the nation’s economy.
