Minister Nyesom Wike of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has pledged his full support to Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria. During a recent courtesy visit in Abuja, Wike commended the Nigerian military for their tireless efforts in keeping the nation safe.
In a show of solidarity, Wike assured Musa of the FCT Administration’s commitment to improving the security situation and maintaining the nation’s territorial integrity. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and offered any necessary support to the military.
As part of their efforts, the National Assembly has passed the 2024 FCT Statutory Budget, which includes provisions for the procurement of drones to enhance the capabilities of security agencies. This strategic move aims to bolster the ongoing battle against various forms of insecurity, particularly in the FCT.
Furthermore, the FCT is gearing up to establish a Rapid Response Centre, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to strengthen the fight against insecurity. This center will be managed by a joint team comprising the military, police, Department of State Services, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
In light of recent tragic events, Wike expressed his condolences to the families of fallen military personnel and reiterated FCT’s unwavering support for the Nigerian military. He emphasized the need to alleviate the suffering of affected families and stand united against such barbaric acts.
During the visit, Gen. Musa praised Wike for the remarkable transformation taking place in the FCT under his leadership. He assured the minister of the Armed Forces’ support and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Nigerians and defending the nation’s sovereignty.
Addressing the rising cases of criminal activities such as one chance and kidnappings, Musa disclosed plans to provide additional support to the Nigeria Police through ground and air troops. The establishment of a standby force will ensure swift responses to incidents of criminality, further enhancing peacekeeping efforts.
The collaborative efforts between the FCT Administration and the Nigerian military underscore a shared commitment to safeguarding the nation and ensuring the safety of its citizens. With a focus on innovation, technology, and proactive measures, the fight against insecurity continues to gain momentum, paving the way for a more secure and resilient Nigeria.
