Former Liverpool forward Djibril Cisse has praised Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku for his ability to excel despite facing criticism.
Since Todd Boehly became a co-owner of Chelsea in May 2022, the club has seen numerous player changes, with not all new signings proving successful. Despite ongoing efforts to revamp the squad, remnants of the Roman Abramovich era remain, with Lukaku currently on loan at Roma.
Chelsea’s attempts to sell Lukaku, following a disappointing second spell at Stamford Bridge, were unsuccessful this summer, leading to his temporary move. However, the Belgian striker has thrived in Italy, scoring 10 goals in 26 Serie A matches and seven goals in the Europa League in just nine appearances.
In a strong show of support for Lukaku, Cisse praised his mental strength and goal-scoring ability, stating, “He is a great player who scores goals wherever he goes. He is often criticized, but mentally, he is a strong guy. It seems that criticism motivates him to perform even better, which is very impressive.”
Cisse’s words highlight Lukaku’s resilience and ability to turn criticism into fuel for success on the field.
