Air travel costs in Nigeria have seen a significant increase, with the average airfare for specified routes rising by 18.03% year-on-year. This data was revealed in the latest Transport Fare Watch report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for February 2024.

In February 2024, the average airfare for a single journey reached N88,000.00, compared to N74,558.11 in the same month the previous year. However, there was a slight decrease of 2.20% from the previous month (January 2024), where the average fare was N88,000.00.

When looking at air transport charges on a state-by-state basis, Rivers State had the highest costs for specified routes and single journeys at N100,000.00, followed by Kano State at N96,000.00. On the other hand, Abia State had the lowest fare at N70,000.00, followed by Abuja and Kogi at N80,000.00.
