Top Boko Haram Commander Surrenders to Troops in Gwoza, Borno

Maiduguri — The First Class Emir of Gwoza local government area in Borno state, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta, made a significant announcement on Friday. He confirmed that the notorious Boko Haram commander, Mallam Yathabalwe, who had been causing terror in Gwoza and surrounding Mandara Mountain communities, has surrendered to troops of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in the North East.

Yathabalwe, responsible for a series of brutal attacks and killings, including the slaughter of farmers on their farmlands, has been a menace to the people of Gwoza. However, this is not the first time he has surrendered; he had previously laid down his arms only to rejoin the terrorist group later on.

In an exclusive interview with our Correspondent, the Gwoza Monarch, HRH Alhaji Timta, expressed his relief at the news. “We are happy to inform you that the most wanted Boko Haram commander, Mallam Yathabalwe, has willingly surrendered to troops of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in the North East,” he said.

Yathabalwe emerged from his hiding place on Friday morning, carrying two AK47 rifles and ammunition. He was then handed over to military troops in Gwoza, with the possibility of being taken to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, for further questioning or action.

The Emir expressed hope that with Yathabalwe’s surrender, peace will finally return to Gwoza and its surrounding areas, allowing farmers to access their lands without fear. This development marks a significant step towards stability in the region.
