Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that the Senate is preparing to lift the three-month suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi. This decision comes after Ningi’s suspension for alleging that the 2024 budget was padded with N3.7 trillion.
Speaking to reporters upon his return from the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, Akpabio stated that the Senate will soon review Ningi’s suspension. He acknowledged that while he had not yet seen the letter from Ningi’s counsel, Femi Falana SAN, requesting reinstatement, the matter would be handled internally as a “family affair.”
Ningi, who had been suspended following his claims about the budget padding, had sought reinstatement through a letter from his legal representative. Akpabio emphasized that despite the suspension, Ningi remains a valued member of the Senate, highlighting the importance of resolving the issue amicably.
As the Senate prepares to address this matter, the focus is on reconciliation and unity within the legislative body. The decision to reconsider Ningi’s suspension reflects a commitment to fairness and transparency in parliamentary proceedings.
