NCAT Rector Reveals Lack of Helicopter for Training, Sparks Investigation

The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) in Zaria is facing scrutiny over the sale of two helicopters, leaving the institute without a single helicopter for training purposes. The acting Rector, Shaka Imalighwe, revealed this information during an investigative hearing in Abuja.

Imalighwe, who took over as acting Rector in January 2024, clarified that he was not involved in the committee that facilitated the sale of the helicopters, despite being the Deputy Rector at the time. This revelation raised concerns among lawmakers, with Rep. Ademorin Kuye expressing dismay over the decision to sell the helicopters to private individuals.

Security agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force, Navy, and Police, had expressed interest in purchasing the helicopters, but their requests were denied by NCAT management. The committee overseeing the investigation has summoned past and present Ministers of Aviation, as well as officials from the Ministry of Works and Ministry of Finance Incorporated, to provide further insight into the sale.

The lack of transparency surrounding the sale of the helicopters has sparked controversy and calls for accountability within the aviation sector. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
