Bauchi Governor Approves 50% Subsidy for 2024 Hajj Pilgrimage
In a groundbreaking decision to support its citizens, Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved a 50% subsidy for the 2024 pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The subsidy, amounting to N950,000, aims to alleviate the financial burden caused by the increased Hajj fare set by the National Hajj Commission.
The National Hajj Commission recently raised the fare for the 2024 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia by N1,918,032.91, causing concern among intending pilgrims from Bauchi State. In response, the state government has pledged to pay a subsidy of N959,000 for each of the 1,652 pilgrims, totaling N2.5 billion.
Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, to the Governor, announced the subsidy in a statement on Friday. He highlighted the government’s commitment to facilitating religious obligations and enhancing the welfare of its citizens through this historic move.
Governor Bala Mohammed’s decision to subsidize the Hajj fare demonstrates the government’s dedication to ensuring that Muslim faithful in Bauchi State have the opportunity to fulfill their sacred duty. By covering 50% of the additional fare, the government aims to enable more citizens to participate in this revered religious obligation.
The immediate release of N2.1 billion for the payment of the subsidy fare underscores the government’s proactive approach to promoting inclusive governance and equal access to opportunities for all citizens. This initiative not only supports the religious aspirations of the people but also aligns with the government’s efforts to alleviate financial burdens and promote social equality.
Through this subsidy, the Bauchi State Government is paving the way for a more inclusive and accessible Hajj pilgrimage experience for its citizens. The governor’s commitment to supporting the religious aspirations of the people sets a precedent for inclusive governance and social welfare initiatives in the region.
