The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria. A 35-year-old woman named Chidinma Chinenye-Agbazue was apprehended while trying to smuggle 20 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 10.70kg, to Doha, Qatar. The illegal drugs were cleverly concealed in African salad, known as Abacha, and dried vegetables.
Working in collaboration with the Department of State Services, NDLEA operatives intercepted Chidinma during the screening process at the airport. She had recently returned to Nigeria from Qatar and was staying at a hotel in Lagos where the contraband was handed over to her for trafficking.
In addition to this arrest, NDLEA officers also thwarted the efforts of other suspects in different parts of Nigeria. In Lagos, two suspects were caught with a large quantity of opioids, including tramadol, codeine syrup, and Molly. Despite attempts to bribe the officers with N5 million, the suspects were apprehended and the bribe money was documented as evidence.
Further operations in Bayelsa, Ogun, Taraba, Abia, Ondo, and Kano led to the arrest of several individuals involved in drug trafficking. From smuggling opioids to cannabis, the NDLEA has been relentless in its efforts to combat drug trafficking across the country.
The spokesperson for NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, highlighted the successful operations and the significant amount of drugs seized in various locations. The agency remains committed to fighting drug trafficking and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice.
These recent arrests and seizures demonstrate the dedication and effectiveness of the NDLEA in combating drug trafficking in Nigeria. The agency’s efforts have undoubtedly made a significant impact in curbing the illegal drug trade and protecting the citizens of the country.
