NDLEA Busts Drug Trafficking Syndicate Across Nigeria
In a series of successful operations, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant strides in combating drug trafficking across Nigeria. From Lagos to Ondo, Edo to Taraba, the agency has been relentless in its efforts to curb the illicit drug trade.
One such operation led to the detention of a 35-year-old woman, Chidinma Chinenye Agbazue, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. She was caught attempting to export 20 parcels of cannabis sativa concealed in African salad to Doha, Qatar. Working in partnership with the Department of State Security, NDLEA officers intercepted Ms. Agbazue as she was about to board a flight to Qatar.
Further investigations revealed that Ms. Agbazue had been based in Qatar but returned to Nigeria for the holidays. She was entrusted with the consignment at a hotel in Lagos before her attempted trafficking to the Arab country.
In separate incidents, NDLEA operatives arrested suspects in various states across the country. In Bayelsa, three individuals were apprehended for attempting to smuggle opioids to the creeks in Southern Ijaw. In Ogun state, two suspects were caught with a significant amount of cannabis during a raid. Meanwhile, in Taraba and Abia states, more suspects were arrested with tramadol, cannabis, and other illicit substances.
The agency’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commending the officers for their dedication. He also praised Commands across the country for intensifying their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy lectures.
As NDLEA continues its fight against drug trafficking, these recent operations serve as a reminder of the agency’s commitment to keeping Nigeria and its citizens safe from the scourge of illicit drugs.
