Rivers United’s technical adviser, Stanley Eguma, expressed disappointment with his team’s inability to capitalize on their opportunities in their recent triumph over USM Alger. The Pride of Rivers clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against the Algerian squad at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Sunday, with Augustine Okejepha netting the lone goal in the quarter-final first-leg clash.
In a post-match interview, Eguma acknowledged the team’s efforts in creating scoring chances but lamented their lack of conversion. He emphasized the need to address the identified shortcomings before the return leg in Algiers, stating, “We will go back to the drawing board and work on improving our finishing. Despite the scoreline, we are grateful for the win as that is what matters most. We will approach the second leg in Algeria with determination and aim for a better outcome.”
The return fixture is scheduled to take place at the Stade du Juliet next Sunday. Stay tuned for more updates on Rivers United’s quest for success in the CAF Confederation Cup.
