The Ondo State Police Command has made a significant arrest in the case of a 39-year-old motorcycle thief, Dolapo Babalola, who not only stole a motorcycle but also took the life of his childhood friend, Evangelist Opeyemi Oyelakin. The incident, which occurred in Ondo town, has shocked the community and raised concerns about safety.

According to Funmilayo Omisanya, the spokesperson for the command, the arrest was made following a report of a missing motorcycle and rider. Detectives acted swiftly and apprehended Babalola, who confessed to the heinous crime during interrogation. He revealed that he and an accomplice, Sikiru Mutiu, lured Oyelakin to a remote location under false pretenses before attacking him and stealing his motorcycle.

The suspect’s chilling confession detailed how they ambushed Oyelakin, resulting in his tragic death. The body was disposed of in a shallow grave, and the motorcycle was stolen. Babalola’s criminal activities extend beyond this incident, as he admitted to being part of a larger syndicate involved in motorcycle theft since 2021. His operational areas include Ondo town, Akure, Ekiti, Ilesha, and Ife town.

The police have recovered crucial evidence from the crime scene, including the victim’s body and the weapons used in the attack.
