A tragic fire over the Easter weekend ravaged through Cape Town’s informal settlements, leaving more than 700 people homeless, according to a report by News24. The City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management center reported that 339 homes were destroyed across four sites, affecting a total of 759 individuals. In response to this crisis, humanitarian organizations such as Gift of the Givers and Islamic Relief stepped in to provide essential support, including hot meals, clothing, and hygiene kits for the next five days. As the affected communities begin to pick up the pieces, the focus now shifts towards debris removal, infrastructure repair, and long-term rebuilding plans.
Unfortunately, the fire resulted in the loss of two lives and left several others injured. Fire investigators are currently on the scene working to determine the cause of the blaze. Durban Businessman’s Family Denies Involvement in AKA Murder Case
The family of a well-known Durban businessman who has been implicated in the murder of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane has vehemently denied any involvement, as reported by IOL. Allegations suggest that the businessman made a substantial payment of R803,455 to one of the suspects, with the State claiming that the funds were distributed among others involved in the crime. In response, the family has clarified that the financial transactions between the businessman and the suspect were for legitimate business purposes, urging the police to approach him for his side of the story.
Expressing their condolences to the families of the victims, the businessman’s family has requested privacy while also expressing their willingness to cooperate with the authorities in the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, suspects linked to the case are currently undergoing a bail application process, and efforts to extradite related suspects who were arrested in Eswatini are underway.
15 More Arrested in University of Fort Hare Killings Investigation
