The Peoples Democratic Party has criticized the Rivers State House of Assembly and the All Progressives Congress for allegedly pressuring Governor Siminalayi Fubara to act outside the law. The PDP called the lawmakers’ threat to impeach Fubara an embarrassment and a public nuisance to the state.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Sydney Gbara, urged the lawmakers to stop disturbing the peace of the state and allow Fubara to focus on governance. Gbara reminded the lawmakers that their legitimacy is being questioned in court and criticized them for making laws and statements that hinder the state’s growth.
The PDP spokesman highlighted that the lawmakers benefited from Fubara’s peaceful actions by signing a peace accord, despite legal challenges to their positions after defecting to the APC. He emphasized that the threats of impeachment are baseless and driven by personal interests, which will be opposed by the people of Rivers.
Gbara also addressed allegations from the acting Chairman of the APC in the state, Chief Tony Okocha, regarding Fubara’s implementation of a peace accord brokered by President Bola Tinubu. He clarified that Fubara has faithfully implemented the peace accord within the bounds of the law and will not be coerced into unconstitutional actions.
Overall, the PDP’s stance is clear: the lawmakers’ actions are illegitimate and detrimental to the state, and any attempts to undermine Fubara’s authority will not succeed. The party stands firm in supporting Fubara’s commitment to peace and lawful governance in Rivers State.
