The chairman of the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, recently shared his harrowing experience after being abducted by six gunmen outside his house. The incident occurred after a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki at the government house on a Friday night in March 2024.
After spending 11 days in captivity, Aziegbemi was finally released by his kidnappers, who had initially demanded a ransom of N500 million for his freedom. The details of the ransom payment remain undisclosed.
During a visit from the state’s deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, for Easter celebrations, Aziegbemi expressed the trauma he endured while in captivity, stating, “I would not wish anyone, even my worst enemies, to go through the ordeal I had in the kidnappers’ den.”
Shaibu, accompanied by friends and political associates, expressed gratitude for Aziegbemi’s safe return and emphasized the personal bond he shares with the chairman’s family. He mentioned being the godfather to Aziegbemi’s twin babies, highlighting the close relationship between the two families.
The resilience and courage shown by Aziegbemi in the face of adversity serve as a testament to the strength of the human spirit. As he continues to recover from his traumatic experience, the support and solidarity from his community and political allies remain unwavering.
Through unity and perseverance, the people of Edo State stand together in denouncing acts of violence and advocating for a safer, more secure future for all. The bravery displayed by Aziegbemi in overcoming his ordeal serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the community at large.
