Delta Monarch Detained Unjustly Amid Communal Crisis Chiefs Demand Release

Members of the Traditional Council of Chiefs in Ewu-Urhobo, Delta State, are demanding the immediate release of their monarch, Clement Ikolo. They assert that the monarch has no involvement in the recent communal crisis that resulted in the tragic killing of 17 military personnel in the Okuama community.

In a statement released on March 30, the council emphasized that His Majesty is not connected to the feud between Okoloba and Okuama communities, nor the unfortunate incident with the military personnel. Despite being one of the individuals wanted by the Defence Headquarters in connection to the killings, Ikolo voluntarily surrendered to the Delta State Police Command, who subsequently handed him over to the military.

The council expressed disbelief at the arrest, highlighting the monarch’s efforts to mediate and resolve the crisis within the kingdom since assuming the throne four months ago. They described Ikolo as a peace-loving leader who has been dedicated to reconciling the factions within the kingdom.

Contrary to allegations, the statement clarified that Ikolo has not visited Okuama community or Ewu, the kingdom’s headquarters, to perform his royal duties. The council extended their condolences to the military and the families of the deceased officers, urging for swift justice for the perpetrators.

As the situation unfolds, the council remains steadfast in their support for their monarch and the pursuit of peace within the community. They are hopeful that the truth will prevail and justice will be served for all parties involved.
