Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has finally broken his streak of disappointments at award ceremonies by winning the prestigious title of Best African Music Artist at the 2024 iHeart Radio Music Awards in the United States.

The star-studded event, which aired live on FOX and was hosted by rapper Ludacris, also saw another Nigerian artist, Rema, take home the award for Best Collaboration of the Year for his hit song ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez.

In addition to the Nigerian winners, American pop icon Beyoncé was honored with the iHeart Innovator Award, while music legend Cher received the iHeart Icon Award.

However, it was Taylor Swift who dominated the night, walking away with an impressive six awards, including Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year, Best Lyrics, TikTok Bop of the Year, and Favorite Tour Style.

Burna Boy and Rema now join the ranks of fellow Nigerian artists Wizkid and Tems as winners of the prestigious iHeart Radio Music Awards.

Prior to his recent success, Burna Boy had faced multiple disappointments at award shows, including missing out on nominations at the BET Hip-hop Awards, Grammys, NAACP Image Awards, and Brit Awards.
