PTECSSAN Threatens Indefinite Strike Over Huawei Sub-Contractors

The Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PTECSSAN) has issued a warning of an impending indefinite strike starting on April 4. In a statement released by the General Secretary, Okonu Abdullahi, the union cited unresolved issues with sub-contractors associated with Huawei Technologies Nigeria Ltd as the reason for the strike.

The sub-contractors in question include Reime Group, All Streamenergy Solutions Ltd., Uppercrest Ltd., Tyllium Nigeria Ltd., and Specific Tools and Techniques Ltd. Despite efforts by the union and the Ministry of Labour and Employment to address these concerns through conciliatory meetings, the companies failed to participate.

As a result, the union has instructed its members to commence the strike on April 4. Mr. Abdullahi emphasized the importance of recognizing the employees’ rights to associate freely with the union, remitting membership dues promptly, and regularizing the employment of union members on Huawei projects. Additionally, the union seeks to be involved in negotiating collective bargaining agreements for the benefit of its members.

During this period of strike action, the union urges Nigerians to understand the potential discomfort it may cause. It is crucial for the issues raised by PTECSSAN to be addressed promptly to ensure a fair and equitable working environment for all parties involved.
