Governor Ahmed Sokoto Denies Taking Loans for Projects in Sokoto State
In a recent report by the BBC Hausa Service, allegations surfaced claiming that Sokoto State, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Sokoto, had taken a foreign loan of $489 million to fund various developmental projects. However, Governor Sokoto has vehemently denied these claims, stating that his administration has never taken any loans, whether foreign or local, to finance projects in the state.
Addressing the allegations, Governor Sokoto, through his press secretary Abubakar Bawa, refuted the reports as misleading and false. He emphasized that his administration has been solely reliant on the monthly allocation from the Federation Account and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to fund all projects undertaken in Sokoto State.
Governor Sokoto challenged anyone with evidence of the alleged loans to come forward and provide documentation to support their claims. He emphasized the importance of following proper procedures, including seeking approval from state lawmakers, before taking any loans, a process he claims has not been undertaken by his administration.
“We have been managing the resources of the state efficiently, utilizing the available funds to execute projects without the need for external loans,” Governor Sokoto stated.
The governor’s firm denial of the loan allegations highlights his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance. As Sokoto State continues to progress under his leadership, the focus remains on sustainable development without incurring unnecessary debts.
By clarifying the misconceptions surrounding the alleged loans, Governor Ahmed Sokoto aims to set the record straight and reassure the people of Sokoto State that their resources are being managed responsibly for the benefit of all residents.
