The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Isaacs Kekemeke, has officially announced his candidacy for the upcoming Ondo State governorship race under the ruling party. With the party’s primary scheduled for April 20, 2024, Kekemeke joins a competitive field of 15 party chieftains vying for the ticket.
Having previously contested for the governorship in the 2020 election but losing to the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Kekemeke expressed his readiness and improved readiness for the current race. Speaking at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in Akure, he emphasized his experience and vision for leading the state towards socio-economic prosperity and peace.
Kekemeke’s ambition is rooted in a deep conviction that he can bring about positive change and progress to Ondo State. He highlighted the need for experienced leadership in navigating the state’s political challenges and aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope program under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
His vision for the state includes fostering a peaceful and prosperous environment for citizens, leveraging information science and technology to boost government revenue and create wealth. Kekemeke positioned himself as a tested and prepared candidate, citing his past service and commitment to the state as evidence of his capability.
Among the party’s aspirants are Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, former Commissioner for Finance Mr Wale Akinterinwa, former House of Representatives member Mr Mayowa Akinfolarin, Prof Francis Faduyile, and Chief Olusola Oke, a former governorship aspirant of the APC. Other contenders include Mr Gbenga Edema, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and Brig. Gen. Olamide Ohunyeye (retd.).
