Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke Enforces New Retirement Age Guidelines

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has recently announced the enforcement of new guidelines for teachers in the state’s public schools to enjoy an increased retirement age of 65 years old and a length of service of 40 years. This move aims to ensure that only eligible individuals benefit from the extended retirement benefits.

In a circular issued by the state Head of Service, Mr. Ayanleye Aina, it was emphasized that teachers must meet specific criteria to qualify for the new retirement age. These criteria include being registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, being medically fit, and not being under any disciplinary action.

Furthermore, eligible officers must apply six months before reaching the age of 60 years or completing 35 years of service, whichever comes first. The application must be endorsed by the Head Teacher/Principal and addressed to the Ministry of Education.

It is important to note that the period of extension granted is not pensionable, and the Ministry of Finance and the State Universal Basic Education Board have been instructed to halt salary payments to individuals who do not meet the necessary requirements.

Governor Adeleke reiterated the importance of complying with the guidelines outlined in previous circulars to enjoy the benefits of the new retirement age. The circular also stressed the need for relevant government agencies to ensure widespread circulation and strict adherence to the guidelines.

For more information on the specific guidelines and requirements, please refer to the attached guidelines document. Let us all work together to ensure transparency and fairness in the implementation of these new retirement policies.
