The Etayip community in Ikom Local Government Area has made a significant gesture by offering a cemetery and adjacent lands to the state government for the transformation of the primary health center in Ikom into a fully equipped general hospital.

During a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Governor Bassey Otu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, the traditional ruler of Etayip community, His Highness, Ntufam Lawrence Okim Agbor, announced the community’s decision to formally hand over the lands to the government in the coming days.

Expressing gratitude to the governor, Ntufam Lawrence Okim Agbor emphasized the community’s commitment to supporting the upgrade of the health facility by relinquishing the cemetery and land for the project.

Dr. Henry Ayuk highlighted the State Executive Council’s approval for the construction of a state-of-the-art general hospital in Ikom, in response to the heartfelt plea from the people of Ikom. The completion of the project is scheduled before Governor Otu’s first anniversary on May 29.

Governor Otu emphasized the importance of the new hospital in addressing the long-standing need for a comprehensive healthcare facility to serve the residents of Ikom, including those from Boki, Etung, and Ikom.

The governor’s administration is guided by the principles of ‘People First,’ equity, and compassion, with a focus on meeting the healthcare needs of the population. The decision to establish a modern hospital in Ikom underscores the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access for the people of Boki, Etung, and Ikom, who collectively represent a significant portion of the state’s population.

With this transformative project, the government aims to enhance healthcare services and ensure the well-being of the community, reflecting a dedication to prioritizing the needs of the people.
