A former Deputy Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Council Area in Abia State, Jerry Awa, has criticized the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia for the party’s poor performance in the 2023 elections. Awa pointed out that the party fielded an unpopular candidate who lacked the capacity to secure victory for the PDP in the state.

Speaking to Media Talk Africa in Umuahia, Awa lamented that the party leadership ignored the zoning arrangements put in place by the founding fathers of Abia and the party, in order to satisfy the ambitions of a single individual. This decision, according to Awa, led to the loss of many party members and supporters to other political parties before the elections.

Awa emphasized the importance of unity among party members and urged the leadership to prioritize the interests of the party over personal ambitions. He also highlighted the need for a transparent and inclusive process that accommodates all members and ensures a level playing field for everyone.

The former coordinator of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) criticized the recent defections of former party candidates and supporters to other parties, labeling it as an act of betrayal. He called for an end to internal conflicts within the party and urged major stakeholders to work together towards a common goal of serving the people.

In conclusion, Awa stressed the importance of putting the interests of the party and the people above individual ambitions. He called on the party leadership to set aside differences and focus on creating a cohesive and inclusive platform for all members to participate and benefit from.
