The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced an extension of the deadline for the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election. The party spokesperson, Felix Morka, revealed this development on Thursday, stating that the deadline has been pushed to Friday.
In addition to extending the sale of nomination forms, the party has also prolonged the sale of delegate forms for the primary election until Friday. Initially, the sale of forms was scheduled to run from March 27 to April 3.
The reason behind the extension was not explicitly stated by the party. However, speculations suggest that the decision may be linked to the recent passing of one of the aspirants, Paul Akintelure. Akintelure, aged 61, tragically passed away in Lagos State after experiencing chest pain for four days.
Following Akintelure’s untimely death, several other aspirants in the gubernatorial race opted to pause their campaigns as a mark of respect and to mourn the loss of their colleague.
The APC primary election, where the party will officially nominate its candidate for the governorship election, is scheduled to take place on April 20th.
This extension provides aspiring candidates with additional time to complete the necessary paperwork and formalities for their participation in the electoral process. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
