In the aftermath of a tragic incident that claimed the lives of 17 individuals in the Wa-Ndoo-Mbakyor community of Gwer East LGA, House of Representatives member Asema Achado has called upon Governor Hyacinth Alia to enforce the state’s anti-open grazing law.

Representing Gwer East/Gwer West, Achado emphasized the urgent need for the strict implementation of the open grazing prohibition law during a condolence visit to the affected community. He also urged for the prosecution of those responsible for the heinous attack, condemning it as an “intolerable act of evil.”

In response to Achado’s call for action, representatives from the Wa-Ndoo community, Zaki Sakuma Tov, and Sir Simon Kofi, president of the Mbaikyor community in the diaspora, commended his dedication and compassion towards the people of his constituency. They expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown during the visit, especially in light of recent adversities caused by such attacks.

It is important to note that the state government had previously issued a two-week ultimatum to herders grazing openly in the state, which expired on March 6, 2023. Following the expiration of the ultimatum, the government had warned of implementing the anti-open grazing law to prevent further incidents of this nature.

As the community mourns the loss of innocent lives, the call for justice and enforcement of laws to protect citizens from such atrocities grows stronger. Governor Alia’s response to this plea for action will be crucial in ensuring the safety and security of the people in the state.
