The Kano government has taken a bold step by filing criminal charges against the former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje. The charges allege that he received a $400,000 kickback from a contractor, along with other accusations of criminal conspiracy, misappropriation, diversion of public funds, and bribery amounting to N1.3 billion.

The legal action, initiated by the state government’s counsel, Muhuyi Magaji, is based on the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2008. The government has lined up 15 witnesses, including forensic experts, security operatives, bank officials, and contractors, to testify against the defendants.

In addition to Abdullahi Ganduje, the charges also involve his wife, Hafsat, and his son, Umar, as well as other individuals and companies. The allegations detail instances where the former governor allegedly received kickbacks and conspired to allocate land for personal gain, causing financial harm to the state and its people.

The legal proceedings are significant in holding public officials accountable for their actions and ensuring transparency and integrity in governance. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as justice unfolds in Kano State.
