The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a bold statement, distancing itself from the upcoming local government selections set to take place on April 6, 2024. In a press release issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Doifie Buokoribo, the party expressed a lack of confidence in the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), citing concerns about the commission’s impartiality due to its members being affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party.

Buokoribo went on to allege that there is a predetermined list of winners waiting to be announced post-election, raising suspicions about the fairness and transparency of the electoral process. He pointed out that the BYSIEC had initially called for elections and requested parties to conduct primaries back in 2023. However, due to internal conflicts within the PDP, the elections were postponed until now publicized for April 6.

According to Buokoribo, the sudden delay in the elections without any valid reason raises red flags, as typically only emergencies or natural disasters can halt the electoral process once a notice has been issued. As a result, he urged all party members and supporters to boycott the upcoming election, emphasizing the need for a fair and unbiased electoral system.

The APC’s decision to distance itself from the local government selections underscores the party’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring a level playing field for all candidates. By speaking out against the perceived bias within the electoral commission, the APC is taking a stand for transparency and integrity in the political process.

As the controversy surrounding the upcoming elections continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved and what implications it may have for the future of democracy in Bayelsa State. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
