Urgent Call for Military Base in Omala LGA to Combat

Chief Elias Atabor, the Leader of Agojeju-Odo community in Kogi, has made a heartfelt plea to the Federal Government for assistance in the face of relentless attacks by bandits. The community has been devastated by recent violence, with the death toll rising by the hour.

In a recent interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Atabor expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in his community. He emphasized the urgent need for a military base to be established in Omala Local Government Area to combat the ongoing attacks.

The tragic events unfolded when a recent attack on the community resulted in a devastating loss of life, with the death toll climbing from 19 to 25. Among the victims were four children, and many others were left hospitalized.

Retired Commodore Jerry Omodara, Special Adviser on Security to Gov. Usman Ododo, confirmed the grim reality of the situation, stating that the death toll had risen to 21 and was expected to increase further.

Mr. Atabor’s impassioned plea for government intervention stems from the community’s desperate situation. He highlighted the need for immediate action to prevent further loss of life and protect the residents of Agojeju-Odo, Ajokpachi-Odo, and Bagaji.

The ongoing violence has turned these once vibrant communities into ghost towns, devoid of economic activity and educational opportunities for the children. Mr. Atabor emphasized the urgent need for assistance to restore peace and security in the region.

In response to the crisis, community stakeholder Mr. Ademu Ibrahim called upon President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Ododo to provide relief materials to the affected communities. The attacks, described as “wicked and unacceptable,” have left the residents reeling from the senseless violence inflicted upon them.

The situation in Kogi serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by communities in the region. The need for immediate intervention and support from the government is paramount to prevent further loss of life and restore peace to the affected areas.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of the attacks, the resilience and unity of its residents shine through. Despite the devastation, there is hope for a brighter future with the support of government and humanitarian assistance. The international community must stand in solidarity with the people of Kogi as they navigate this difficult time.
