Oyo APC Secretary Urges Transparency in Local Government Elections

The Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Tajudeen Olanite, recently shared insights with Media Talk Africa regarding the party’s stance on the upcoming local government elections. The party has threatened to withdraw its candidates if the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission does not utilize the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the polls.

Olanite emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the electoral process. He expressed concerns about rumors suggesting the BVAS may not be used, despite assurances from the OYSIEC chairman. The BVAS, according to Olanite, would enhance transparency and credibility in the election, benefiting voters, candidates, and the electorate.

The decision to insist on the BVAS stems from a desire for a more transparent electoral process. Olanite highlighted the lack of development in local government areas, citing examples of neglect and decay in communities like Oyo East. He criticized the current administration’s performance, pointing out the need for effective governance at the grassroots level.

In response to claims by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information that the ruling party, PDP, would win the elections based on Governor Seyi Makinde’s performance, Olanite challenged the narrative. He questioned the allocation of resources and highlighted the deteriorating state of local government infrastructure under the current administration.

Regarding concerns about the economic policies of the APC and Bola Tinubu’s government, Olanite defended the party, attributing hardship to mismanagement of funds by state governors. He emphasized the need for accountability and proper utilization of resources to benefit the masses.

Despite challenges and criticisms, Olanite remained confident in the APC’s prospects in the upcoming elections. He dismissed concerns about the influence of national politics on local outcomes, emphasizing the importance of addressing local governance issues.

In conclusion, Olanite reassured that the APC was united and prepared for the local government elections, aiming to bring about positive change and effective governance at the grassroots level. The party’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and development resonated throughout the conversation, highlighting their determination to serve the people and address the challenges facing local communities.
