Alex Iwobi Breaks Nigerian EPL Minutes Record, Surpasses Mikel Obi

Fulham’s Alex Iwobi has made history in the English Premier League by surpassing John Mikel Obi’s record for the most minutes played by a Nigerian player. In a recent match against Newcastle United, Iwobi played the full 90 minutes, bringing his total Premier League minutes to an impressive 16,289, surpassing Mikel Obi’s previous record of 16,218 minutes.

Iwobi’s journey in the Premier League began with Arsenal in 2015 before moving to Everton in 2019 and eventually joining Fulham last summer. The versatile midfielder has been a consistent presence on the pitch, making 24 league appearances this season and scoring five goals. In total, Iwobi has made 247 appearances in the league, scoring 22 goals.

Mikel Obi, the previous record holder, had a successful career with Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and a Champions League trophy during his 11 seasons with the club. He made 249 Premier League appearances, scoring 1 goal and providing 10 assists.
