Former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has spoken out against his recent impeachment by the state House of Assembly, calling it illegal. The impeachment came after a seven-man investigative panel, appointed by the state Chief Judge, probed allegations of misconduct against Shaibu.
In a video shared on his social media platform, Shaibu expressed his disappointment in the lack of due process during the impeachment process. He believes that the move was motivated by his ambition to run for the position of Edo State Governor in the upcoming 2024 election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shaibu emphasized that his ambition is a legal right as a citizen of Nigeria and condemned the impeachment as an attack on democracy. He described it as a dangerous step towards dictatorship and a threat to the democratic foundation of the state.
