Gunmen in military attire abducted Sobomabo Jackrich, the Rivers State governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the 2023 general election, from his residence in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area. Tragically, two of his loyalists were shot dead during the raid in the early hours of Monday, with their bodies taken alongside Jackrich.
Known as ‘Egberipapa,’ Jackrich, a former militant leader turned amnesty advocate during the late President Umar Yar’Adua’s tenure, was taken by the assailants. His media aide, Soibibo Sokari, confirmed the incident, expressing shock and seeking more information on the situation.
While suspicions point towards the military’s involvement, official statements are yet to confirm this. The state police command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, clarified that Jackrich is in the custody of security personnel, dispelling rumors of a kidnapping.
