In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and support, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) recently stepped in to aid residents with disabilities affected by a devastating fire incident on the outskirts of Abuja.

In a statement released on their official Facebook page, NEMA detailed their efforts to provide relief items to those impacted by the tragedy. The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, personally oversaw the distribution of these essential supplies, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and well-being of vulnerable individuals, especially during times of crisis.

The relief items, which included bags of rice, foam mattresses, clothing, and household essentials, were distributed following a request from the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities. The fire at Karmojiji not only destroyed homes but also disrupted livelihoods, leaving many in dire need of assistance.

Dr. David Lalu, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, expressed gratitude to NEMA for their swift response and support in the aftermath of the fire. The collaboration between NEMA and other stakeholders was instrumental in providing much-needed relief to those affected by the disaster.

As the distribution of relief items took place, some beneficiaries expressed their desire for additional support to help them regain self-sufficiency. The statement highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and the importance of continued assistance and empowerment.

Through their actions, NEMA demonstrated a commitment to serving all members of the community, ensuring that no one is left behind in times of crisis. The agency’s efforts serve as a beacon of hope and solidarity, showcasing the power of compassion and collective action in times of adversity.
