Electricity distribution companies are facing challenges in providing consistent power supply to customers on Band A feeders, with technical faults being cited as the main reason for the disruptions. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has mandated that customers on Band A feeders must receive a minimum of 20 hours of electricity daily, with penalties for non-compliance.

Various distribution companies, such as the Benin Electricity Distribution Company and the Kano DisCo, have issued apologies to customers for the inconsistent power supply. Issues such as circuit breaker problems and load shedding by the Transmission Company of Nigeria have been identified as causes of the disruptions.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company also highlighted technical faults at the Gwagwalada Transmission Station as the reason for prolonged power outages in parts of the Federal Capital Territory. Efforts are being made to rectify the faults and restore power supply as quickly as possible.

Customers on Band A have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of consistent power supply since the new tariff was announced, while customers in Bands B to E have raised concerns about being overbilled by their service providers. The Minister of Power has threatened to sanction erring distribution companies, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and reporting non-compliance to the NERC.

Overall, the challenges faced by electricity distribution companies in Nigeria highlight the need for improved infrastructure and service delivery to meet the growing demand for reliable power supply. The efforts to address technical faults and ensure consistent electricity supply are crucial in providing a better experience for customers across the country.
