A few days before the primary elections of the All Progressives Congress, the Vetting Committee cleared all governorship aspirants of the party. The committee, led by Prof Abdulkarim Kana, conducted the screening process, dismissing allegations of certificate forgery against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa by one of the aspirants, Mr Gbenga Edema.
The aspirants who submitted forms include Adewale Akinterinwa, Isaacs Kekemeke, Francis Faduyile, Oladiran Iyantan, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, Jimoh Ibrahim, Odimayo Okunjimi, Mayo Akinfolarin, Morayo Lebi, Olamide Ohunyeye, Olugbenga Edema, Olusoji Ehinlanwo, Olusola Oke, Omogoroye Judith, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Waheed-Adekojo Funmilayo.
The Vetting Committee recommended that all aspirants be cleared for the screening exercises, ensuring transparency and integrity in the process. Edema’s petition to investigate the certificate forgery allegation was countered by Aiyedatiwa’s lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), who confirmed the authenticity of the governor’s academic credentials.
Adegboruwa demanded a public apology and withdrawal of false publications regarding the governor’s certificate, emphasizing the need for accuracy and accountability in political processes. The committee’s commitment to internal democracy and good governance remains paramount in the selection of qualified and credible aspirants for the party primaries.
