Nollywood Actor Junior Pope Dies in Tragic Boat Accident: AGN President Confirms

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, has sadly confirmed the passing of Nollywood actor, John Paul Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope. The tragic incident occurred when Junior Pope and three of his colleagues were returning from a movie shoot in a boat and accidentally fell into Anam River in Anambra.

Rollas took to his Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, expressing his sorrow over the loss. Despite efforts by medical professionals at two different hospitals to revive him, Junior Pope could not be saved.

Junior Pope began his acting career in 2006, starting with minor roles in Nollywood films. He gained recognition in 2007 after starring in the popular movie “Secret Adventures” directed by Tchidi Chikere. Over the years, he appeared in over 150 Nollywood movies, showcasing his talent in various roles such as a bodyguard, palace attendant, and villain.

In 2010, Junior Pope was honored with the award for Nollywood Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Entertainment Factory Awards. He continued to impress audiences with his performances, winning accolades like Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and Best Actor of the Year at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

Known for his versatility in portraying criminal, villainous, and action-packed characters, Junior Pope shared the screen with industry veterans like Emma Ehumadu, Sylvester Madu, and Jim Iyke. His contributions to the Nigerian film industry will always be remembered and cherished.

The sudden loss of Junior Pope has deeply saddened the entertainment community, leaving a void that will be hard to fill. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.
