NAFDAC Bans Dex Luxury Bar Soap in Nigeria Due to Harmful Chemical Content

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) made a significant announcement on Thursday, revealing a ban on the sale of Dex Luxury bar soap in Nigeria. This decision was prompted by the presence of Butyphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA) in the product, a substance deemed harmful by the European Union (EU).

In a social media post on Thursday, April 11, NAFDAC highlighted the EU’s ban on Dex Luxury bar soap due to its potential to harm the reproductive system of users, pose risks to the health of unborn children, and cause skin sensitization. Despite not being listed in the NAFDAC database, the agency urged importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance in the supply chain to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and use of this product.

This development serves as a stark reminder of the importance of regulatory bodies like NAFDAC in safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety of consumer products. It also underscores the need for increased awareness and scrutiny within the supply chain to prevent the circulation of harmful goods.

As global consumers, it is crucial to stay informed and proactive in monitoring the products we use daily. By remaining vigilant and supporting regulatory efforts like NAFDAC’s ban on Dex Luxury bar soap, we can collectively contribute to a safer and healthier marketplace for all.
