TC, one of the survivors of the tragic boat accident that claimed the life of Nollywood actor, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, also known as Junior Pope, has shared his harrowing account of the moments leading up to the disaster.
According to TC, the lack of experience of the person operating the boat was a key factor in the accident that took the lives of four actors, including Junior Pope, on the Anam River in Anambra State. The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, confirmed Junior Pope’s passing and mentioned that three other bodies are still missing.
During an Instagram Live session, TC revealed, “Before I boarded the boat, Junior Pope asked me what I was doing. I told him I was offering a gift to the water spirits as a sign of respect. I shared a Fanta with them, hoping for a safe journey. Junior Pope agreed to my gesture.”
As they were on their way back from a movie location, TC recounted how the person steering the boat was distracted by wearing an earpiece, while Junior Pope was recording a video. TC noticed a small canoe with fishermen ahead, but due to the lack of experience of the boat operator, they collided with the canoe and the boat capsized.
The heartbreaking incident has left the entertainment industry in mourning, with fans and colleagues expressing their shock and sadness over the loss of Junior Pope and the other actors. The video shared on social media captures the poignant moment when TC recalls the events leading up to the tragedy.
