Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) Expansion Project: China Aid Agreement

The Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) is set to undergo a transformative upgrade, thanks to a generous contribution from the People’s Republic of China. The Government of Liberia, in partnership with the Chinese Embassy, has signed a groundbreaking agreement worth over US$5 million to revamp and expand the broadcasting system.

The official signing ceremony, held at the LBS compound on Wednesday, 10 April 2024, marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two nations. Distinguished guests, including Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah and LBS Director General Eugene L. Faghon, gathered to witness the historic event. Representatives from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and other officials were also in attendance, underscoring the importance of the project.

Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, expressed China’s unwavering commitment to supporting Liberia’s development. He commended the new leadership team at LBS and emphasized the positive impact the refurbishment and expansion project will have on the broadcasting system. Ambassador Yin highlighted the strong friendship between China and Liberia, guided by principles of sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith.

The project, totaling over $5 million, will include the construction of a new broadcasting building and a state-of-the-art broadcasting production system for LBS. This initiative aims to enhance LBS’s capacity, efficiency, and influence, ultimately benefiting the Liberian people. The project will also provide essential equipment such as an outdoor broadcasting vehicle, satellite transmission systems, and upgrades to existing infrastructure.

Director General Eugene L. Faghon expressed his gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for their support, emphasizing the positive impact the project will have on LBS and its audience. He highlighted the importance of the project in increasing the station’s reach and improving its programming for the benefit of the Liberian people.

As the project moves forward, both China and Liberia are committed to fostering friendship and cooperation, guided by mutual respect and shared goals. The collaboration between the two nations exemplifies the spirit of partnership and solidarity, paving the way for a brighter future for LBS and its audience.
