As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gears up for its primaries on April 20, governorship aspirant Jimi Odimayo is making a plea to the party leadership. He is urging them to avoid selecting a candidate with a one-term limit, citing concerns about potential exploitation by opposition parties in the upcoming November 16 election.
Odimayo, a current House of Representatives member representing Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency, is specifically calling out Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He is asking Aiyedatiwa to reconsider his ambition for the greater good of the southern senatorial district and the APC as a whole.
Highlighting the constitutional restriction on a third term in office, Odimayo emphasizes the importance of selecting a candidate who can serve a full eight-year term. He warns that choosing a candidate who falls short could jeopardize the party’s chances in the next election and open them up to challenges from the opposition.
“We, in Ondo South, will ensure that APC doesn’t produce anybody that would be questionable or challenged by the opposition party,” Odimayo asserts. “Our leaders should not be sentimental because people are watching. We want the party to utilize this opportunity; we have eight years. We will not tolerate anything less than eight years for Ondo South.”
With the APC being the predominant party in Ondo State, Odimayo stresses the importance of making a strategic decision that aligns with the party’s long-term goals. He urges caution and unity within the party to avoid falling into traps set by their adversaries.
In the lead-up to the primaries, Odimayo’s message serves as a reminder of the critical decisions that lie ahead for the APC in Ondo State. As the party navigates through internal challenges and external pressures, the choice of a candidate with a clear path to an eight-year term could be the key to securing victory in the upcoming election.
