The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has successfully completed and connected a 132/33kv electricity substation in Ode-Erinje, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State to the national grid. This project, overseen by the NDDC’s Executive Director of Projects, Victor Antai, is set to significantly impact economic activities in Ondo State and improve the living standards of the local communities.
Antai emphasized the NDDC’s commitment to providing electricity to oil-producing communities in Ondo South Senatorial District that have been without power for the past 15 years. The substation is scheduled to be inaugurated in April, marking a milestone achievement for the region.
The NDDC’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has directed the completion and commissioning of legacy projects like this one to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the people in the Niger Delta region. Antai also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the NDDC’s efforts.
The power substation is expected to provide electricity to over 2,000 communities across five local government areas in Ondo State, ending decades of darkness and improving the quality of life for residents. The NDDC has also awarded a contract for the total rehabilitation of the distribution network to ensure the efficient delivery of electricity to the benefiting communities.
Benson Obayelu, representing the contracting firm, highlighted the scope of the power project, which includes the evacuation of light from Omotosho through a 132KV double circuit transmission line with two 30/40MVA transformers. This project will connect five local government areas in the Southern Senatorial district of Ondo State to the national grid.
Dr. Obafemi Ogbaro, Acting National Chairman of TROMPCON, emphasized the importance of connecting to the national grid for the people of Ondo South Senatorial District, who have been in darkness for many years. Otito Atikase, the Ondo State Representative on the NDDC Board, echoed the sentiment, stating that access to electricity is crucial for economic development and improving the quality of life in the region.
The NDDC’s efforts to provide electricity to these communities will have a significant impact on their lives and contribute to the overall development of the Niger Delta region. The completion of the 132/33kv electricity substation in Ode-Erinje is a testament to the NDDC’s commitment to fulfilling its mandate of providing infrastructure and development projects in the region.
The NDDC has announced that the substation will be handed over to the Transmission Company of Nigeria for operational management after the inauguration, marking a significant milestone for the region’s electrification efforts. This achievement was made possible through a performance bond signed by the NDDC with the Ministry of Niger Delta Development, showcasing the agency’s dedication to improving the lives of the people in the Niger Delta region.
