A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged former Lagos State Governor and APC leader, Bola Tinubu, to step in and address the potential reduction in the pump price of diesel produced by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
Speaking to reporters in Osogbo, Oyintiloye expressed concern over the high pump price of N1,225 set by the refinery. He emphasized the need for a significant price difference between imported diesel and that produced locally by the refinery.
Oyintiloye highlighted the expectation of Nigerians that the Dangote refinery would lead to a decrease in the pump price of diesel and other petroleum products, rather than an increase. He referenced the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria’s claim that the landing cost of diesel is now N1,250 per litre due to the appreciation of the Naira against the dollar, underscoring the necessity for President Tinubu’s intervention.
As a former lawmaker, Oyintiloye pointed out that since the Dangote refinery produces diesel locally, without the expenses associated with importing the product, the price should ideally be lower than that of imported diesel.
He commended Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the significant economic impact of the refinery’s operations in Nigeria, acknowledging the positive implications for the country’s economy.
In conclusion, Oyintiloye’s call for President Tinubu’s intervention in the pump price of diesel from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery reflects the concerns of many Nigerians about the affordability and accessibility of locally produced petroleum products.
