Iconic Actor John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor’s Heroic Sendoff Ceremony

The late iconic actor, John ‘Mr Ibu’ Okafor, will finally be laid to rest on June 28, more than three months after his passing at a Lagos hospital. His family has announced a five-day ceremony to honor his memory in his hometown of Amuri, Enugu State.

Mr Ibu’s elder brother, Sunday Okafor, explained the delay in burial, stating that the actor will receive a heroic sendoff befitting his status. The family invites everyone to join them in celebrating the life of their beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law.

The elaborate burial itinerary includes a high-profile match on June 25, followed by “Mr Ibu’s Night” featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment on June 26. A Christian Wake-Keep will be held on June 27, leading up to the burial on June 28. The ceremony will conclude with a church thanksgiving service on June 30.

Throughout his illustrious career spanning several decades, Mr Ibu brought joy to countless homes through his acting. He starred in over 200 Nollywood films, including classics like “Mr Ibu,” “Mr Ibu 2,” “Mr Ibu and His Son,” “Coffin Producers,” “Husband Suppliers,” “International Players,” “Mr Ibu in London,” “Police Recruit,” “9 Wives,” “Ibu in Prison,” and “Keziah.”
