The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly caucus in Benue State has refuted claims of factionalism within the party in the state. The political landscape in Benue has been tumultuous, with a power struggle between Governor Hyacinth Alia and former Governor and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.
In a statement released by Hon Philip Agbese, the joint spokesman of the NASS, the caucus asserted that there is no faction within the Benue APC. They dismissed those spreading such rumors as “desperate comedians vying for roles in Nollywood.”
The lawmakers affirmed that Senator Akume remains the leader of the party in Benue, in accordance with the APC’s principles. They also maintained that Austin Agada, who was previously removed from his position as state chairman by his ward, still holds that title as per the party’s constitution and the National Working Committee.
Agbese questioned Governor Alia’s motives in trying to challenge Senator Akume’s leadership, highlighting Akume’s extensive political experience compared to Alia’s relatively short time in office. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the party’s doctrine and hierarchy.
The caucus members emphasized their commitment to the party’s values and structure, underscoring their respect for established leaders within the party. They rejected any claims of self-proclaimed leadership within their constituencies, acknowledging the presence of prominent figures like Senator Ameh Ebute, Chief Audu Ogbeh, and Chief John Ochoga in their midst.
The Benue APC National Assembly caucus stands united in their support for Senator Akume and the party’s established leadership, reaffirming their dedication to upholding the party’s principles and unity.
