The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has made it clear that they do not support the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) decision to extend the local government council election by one year. Alhaji Sa’adu Barwa, the PDP chairman in Dutse local government, emphasized that the IPAC decision was not widely accepted and was made by a select few individuals.
IPAC had proposed amending the state’s electoral law to allow political parties 360 days to prepare for elections. However, Barwa stressed that the current law clearly states the tenure of elected positions, with the Jigawa State Government Council’s term set to expire in July of this year.
Barwa insisted that the State Independent Electoral Commission must ensure timely and transparent elections across all 27 local government areas and 287 political wards in the state. He expressed the PDP’s determination to participate in the elections and highlighted their confidence in winning, citing the challenges faced by the state and country.
Furthermore, Barwa accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being apprehensive about the election outcome, emphasizing the PDP’s readiness to contest fairly and resist any attempts at manipulation or disenfranchisement.
In conclusion, the PDP in Jigawa State is resolute in their commitment to democratic processes and ensuring a level playing field for all political parties in the upcoming local government council election.
