The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken a stand against the unjustifiable price hikes of goods and services in Nigeria. Despite the recent strengthening of the Naira against the Dollar, consumers are still feeling the pinch of rising costs without any relief in sight.
Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, the Ag. Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the FCCPC, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to ensuring fair competition and protecting consumers from exploitation. While the FCCPC does not have the authority to directly regulate prices, it will use its legal framework to enforce consumer protection provisions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the FCCPC acknowledged the concerns raised by Nigerians about the continuous increase in prices. The Commission recognizes the financial burden that these escalating costs are placing on households and is taking proactive measures to address the issue.
The FCCPC’s stance on monitoring and investigating price hikes sends a clear message to businesses that unfair practices will not be tolerated. By prioritizing consumer protection and fair competition, the Commission aims to alleviate the financial strain on Nigerian households.
As the FCCPC works towards ensuring a level playing field for consumers, it urges businesses to uphold ethical standards and refrain from taking advantage of the current economic situation. With a focus on transparency and accountability, the Commission is determined to safeguard the interests of consumers in Nigeria.
