AllAfrica Global Media is set to launch the AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit (AMLS), a new convening platform aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the African media industry. This initiative comes after a successful decade-long run of the African Media Leaders Forum (AMLF), which brought together influential media stakeholders from across the continent.
The AMLS, set to take place in Nairobi from the 8th to the 10th of May, will gather over 250 top African media leaders, global media players, government officials, and development partners to discuss the critical role of media in shaping Africa’s future. With the theme “Re-engineering African Media in Times of Critical Transformation”, the summit aims to provide media practitioners with the skills and knowledge needed to drive regional integration and economic transformation.
In light of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the rapid technological advancements in the media industry, the AMLS will focus on key pillars such as African Economic Transformation, AI, Technology, and Digitization, Regional Integration, Misinformation and Disinformation, Governance, and Creating Sustainable Business Models. The summit will also address the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation campaigns, as well as the use of deep fakes, in today’s digital age.
With the world evolving into a new reality post-COVID, the AMLS seeks to support media leaders and practitioners through constant technological disruption and economic challenges. By sharing new ideas and gaining enhanced contextual knowledge, the summit aims to strengthen Africa’s collective efforts towards economic progress in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063.
In addition to the main summit, AllAfrica will introduce innovative approaches to address the ever-changing media landscape, ensuring that the conversations at the AMLS remain relevant and impactful. As the media industry continues to evolve, the AMLS stands as a vital platform for media leaders to come together, share insights, and shape the future of African media.
