As intra-party intrigues continue to build up, the ousted national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu has withdrawn his case against the party.

The PDP in turn withdrew an appeal filed against Senator Ayu.

News of the development filtered in while the PDP governors were meeting at Akwa Ibom Governor Lodge, Asokoro.

Both cases were in different courts in Makurdi, Benue state.

One of the implications of the development is that Ambassador Damagum now has no option but to return to his former position as deputy national chairman (north) while the north central zone picks someone to serve out Senator Ayu’s tenure which is expected to end by October/November next year.

Another implication of the two withdrawals is that the PDP is now in a position to pick someone from the north-central geo-political zone to succeed Ayu.

It also implies that the pro-Atiku camp to which Ayu belongs has facilitated reconciliation efforts in the party and is therefore, worthy of the national chairmanship position which it is seeking for former Benue governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam.

The pro-Atiku camp vehemently opposes any idea of allowing the acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Ilya Damagun continue in office as chairman.

The pro-Wike group appears to have foreseen such development as it has prepared for the likelihood of pushing forward the name of Honourable David Ombugadu from Nasarawa state for either the position of national chairman or deputy national chairman (north), depending on whatever happens to Damagun.
