Edo State Commissioner Stripped of Honorary Chieftaincy Title for Disrespecting

The Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Diaspora Affairs, Uyi Oduwa-Malaka, has recently faced a significant setback as she was stripped of the honorary chieftaincy title of Uzoyare of Ozalla Kingdom. This decision was made by the Onotare of Ozalla Kingdom, HRH Nathaniel Igelugbo Omogbai, also known as The Okpamen the IX, in response to alleged misconduct and disrespect towards the monarch.

According to a statement released by the Palace Spokesman, Osumah Obaze, the revocation of the title was intended to serve as a warning to others who may attempt to undermine the authority of the throne. The commissioner was accused of various offenses, including asking the king to meet her in her car upon her arrival at the palace, openly insulting the Onotare during a festival, and boasting about removing the traditional ruler from office.

In addition to Uyi Oduwa-Malaka, another individual, George Ohioma, who held the title of Ozemevboya of Ozalla Kingdom, also faced repercussions for his actions. The title was revoked, and it was declared to be exclusively reserved for “Ozalla freeborns.” George Ohioma was accused of insulting and physically assaulting the Onotare of Ozalla and his secretary in the presence of prominent figures such as the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and the Chairman of Owan West Local Government Council.

As a result of these incidents, both Uyi Oduwa-Malaka and George Ohioma have been banned from the palace by the Onotare of Ozalla. The public announcement of their ostracism serves as a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated within the community.

This development highlights the importance of respecting traditional customs and honoring the authority of traditional rulers. It also underscores the consequences that individuals may face if they choose to disregard these principles. The actions taken by the Onotare of Ozalla demonstrate a commitment to upholding the dignity and integrity of the kingdom, ensuring that only those who uphold its values are granted the privilege of honorary titles.
