Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has sparked controversy with his decision to hold a logo crafting competition for the state. The move comes after the Osun State House of Assembly repealed the state Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law 2012, allowing for a new logo to be created.
Adeleke signed a bill adopting a new logo for the state, but the design received criticism on social media. In response, the governor announced a one-week competition to gather public input on the logo design. This decision was made in an effort to involve the community in the process of rebranding the state.
However, not everyone is pleased with the new logo. Opposition parties, such as the Allied Peoples Movement and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, have voiced their disapproval. The NNPP, in particular, described the logo as a waste of taxpayers’ money and called for its withdrawal.
In light of the backlash, the governor’s spokesperson announced the details of the logo crafting competition. Designers are invited to submit their entries between April 19th and 26th, either in person or online. The winning design will be announced on April 28 and unveiled during the new edition of Ipade Imole on April 30th.
The competition aims to engage the community in the rebranding process and select a logo that truly represents the spirit of Osun State. With the promise of compensation for the top three designers, the stakes are high for those participating in this creative challenge.
